With Otter.ai, audio leaves your device the moment you press record; it's transcribed on Otter's cloud (running primarily on AWS in the US) and kept in your account. Otter uses meeting content to help improve its AI; a 2025 class action (Brewer v. Otter.ai, N.D. Cal.) alleges it didn't clearly disclose this to participants or obtain their consent. Otter says training is covered by an explicit opt-in and that the audio is de-identified — the suit disputes how clear that consent really is.
