Private AI meeting notes, processed on your Mac
Most AI notetakers work by uploading your meeting audio to their cloud. QuietScribe doesn't. It records your calls, writes the transcript, summary and action points, and runs the AI entirely on your Apple Silicon Mac — so confidential conversations stay on the device you already trust. It's a local, private alternative to cloud tools like Otter.ai and Fireflies.ai.
Why "on-device" is the difference that matters
Cloud meeting assistants send your audio to their servers the moment you press record, transcribe it there, and keep the recording and transcript in your account. That's convenient — and it's also a copy of every sensitive call sitting on someone else's infrastructure, governed by their retention and AI-training settings.
QuietScribe uses open-source models (whisper.cpp for transcription and Gemma for summaries) that run locally. Because nothing is uploaded for processing, there is no vendor copy to breach, subpoena, or train a model on. The only things that touch the internet are a licence check and the one-time model download.

An honest side-by-side, using each product's published 2026 pricing and policies. QuietScribe is the private, single-Mac choice; Otter and Fireflies are stronger if you need a shared cloud workspace across a team.

When QuietScribe is the right pick
- You take confidential calls — legal, medical, HR, finance, founder and deal conversations — and don't want a cloud copy.
- You don't want a notetaker bot appearing in the participant list.
- You want one predictable price for one Mac, with no minute or storage caps.
- You keep your notes in Obsidian, Apple Notes or Notion and want plain Markdown you control.
When a cloud tool is the better fit
Choose Otter.ai or Fireflies.ai if you need a shared team workspace, CRM push, web and mobile access from any device, Windows support, or built-in collaboration across many seats. QuietScribe is deliberately a single-Mac, single-user, privacy-first tool — not a team platform.
How QuietScribe works
Install the app, let it download the models once, and take calls as usual. When a call starts, QuietScribe asks whether to record. After the call it transcribes on-device with Whisper, separates speakers, summarises with Gemma, and drops a note — with action points — into your chosen destination. Everything happens on your Mac.
